ARID Managers Workshop

The ARID Institute will be hosting an upcoming Managers Workshop for external partners, including resource managers, community health practitioners, business and economic leaders, non-profits, community leaders, and other interested groups to share their priority questions, issues, and concerns related to future resilience of New Mexico to climate change. Lunch will be provided. ARID will develop a summary report of priorities, which will inform a resilience research plan.

ARID World Cafe

This event is a part of UNM's Research and Discovery Week. 

The ARID Institute at UNM is hosting an ARID World Café. This event will connect university students, researchers, managers, and community members working in different fields to discuss what resilience means to them. Learn about the important work being done to increase climate resilience in New Mexico, and share your thoughts and priorities for future work.

ARID Science Communication Workshop 

Friday, November 15th, 2024 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM

This event is a part of UNM's Research and Discovery Week. 

The ARID Institute at UNM is hosting a workshop on Friday, November 15th at 1 PM to 4 PM to share strategies, tips, and best practices for science communication to non-technical audiences. The workshop will be hosted by Debbie Lee, Sr Program Manager for the ARID Institute. She is an experienced environmental mediator, facilitator, and science communicator. The workshop will help researchers think through the basics of communicating their research and build skills in communicating science for a) conveying information, and b) to inform behavioral change.

 

ARID Resilience Brewery Conversation

We will discuss ongoing research to find soil fungi that can help remove or detoxify heavy metals (lead, arsenic, uranium) from lands affected by historical mining. Our goal is to test whether fungi can bioremediate metals better if they have a little help from plants. We would also love community feedback on the development of a new undergraduate course model to build hands-on experience with community-engaged research, including working with Tribal communities and partners.

ARID On Tap: A Community Conversation on Planetary Health and Micro/Nanoplastics

ARID on Tap events are community conversations on a resilience related topic led by UNM researchers. Join Dr. Heidi Rogers and Dr. Claudia Pratesi to discuss Planetary Health, “a solutions-oriented, transdisciplinary field and social movement focused on analyzing and addressing the impacts of human disruptions to Earth’s natural systems on human health and all life on Earth,” and the impact of micro/nanoplastics on the environment and human health.

All attendees will receive an ARID pint glass (only available at ARID on Tap events!).
