Meet the Team

Tamar Ginossar, PhD – CEC Team Lead
Dr. Ginossar is a Full Professor at the Department of Communication and Journalism and the B.A./M.D. program. Prior to joining the department of Communication and Journalism, Dr. Ginossar held a research faculty appointment with the University of New Mexico School of Medicine. Her research focuses on health, environment and science communication as means for increasing health equity. Dr. Ginossar is passionate about working with communities and with interdisciplinary teams to reduce environmental health disparities and is excited about working with our community partners.
Thomas A. De Pree, PhD
ThomasA. DePree is a research assistant professor in the Department of Civil, Construction & Environmental Engineering, affiliated faculty in the Department of Anthropology, and Geography and Environmental Studies at the University of New Mexico, and an instructor in Environmental Science at Southwestern Indian Polytechnic Institute (SIPI).
Kerstin Kalke, PhD
Dr. Kerstin Kalke is a Health Communication Scholar and Behavioral Scientist who designs and evaluates strategies for communicating health and risk information across diverse populations. She is passionate about developing communication approaches that make complex scientific information understandable, engage communities and individuals, and support informed decision-making. Her research is situated in the contexts of environmental health, cancer, and genetics. She holds an MA in Communication from the University of New Mexico and a PhD in Media, Technology, and Society (with a focus on health communication) from Northwestern University. As part of NM-INSPIRES and CHANGES, Dr. Kalke collaborates with communities and researchers to create engaging, accessible strategies that advance environmental health across New Mexico.

Mikayla Ranspot
Mikayla Ranspot is a recent graduate from UNM with a double major in Biology and Earth & Planetary Science. She is currenrtly acting as the Project Assistant and Student and Outreach Coordinator for CHANGES and ARID. She is devloping a research project titled "Assessing the Nutritional Stress of Gray Whales in Response to Mortality Events" which will be published later this year.
