ARID Strategic Planning Meeting

ARID held its first Strategic Planning Meeting for leadership team members on March 21, 2024. The goals of the meeting were to solidify common language to talk about the ARID Institute, brainstorm and prioritize future strategies for ARID, identify key gaps (e.g., resources, expertise, partnerships) to implement strategies, discuss future hiring needs, identify proposals/proposal ideas for further development at a Proposal Writing Workshop, and brainstorm ideas for a public ARID Institute launch.

The following impact statement was developed as a result of group discussions: Climate change is one of the major crises we are facing with devastating impacts on sustainable water, healthy ecosystems, community health, and infrastructures.

Leadership Team members identified the following priority focus areas for ARID: developing financial and administrative support, forming a transdisciplinary conceptual space to facilitate evidence-informed actions that increase climate resilience, and providing opportunities for student and workforce development. Members also identified the following additional areas of effort which would require longer-term planning: operational needs, fundraising opportunities, UNM engagement, external engagement, student and professional development, and Research-to-Action initiatives.
