February 7, 2025
The Higher Education Climate Leadership Summit was hosted by Second Nature in Washington, DC on February 2-4, 2025. Over 380 higher education professionals attended to discuss how colleges and universities can be leaders in climate action in our communities, our states, country, and the world.
ARID Senior Program Manager Debbie Lee was invited to sit on a panel on "Climate Institutes as Trnasformational Opportunities for Climate Solutions On and Off Campus," along with Courtney Schultz, the founder and Director of the Colorado State University Climate Initiative, and Sarah Mincey, the Director of Indiana University's Environmental Resilience Institute. Debbie spoke about the ARID Institute's founding, direction, key accomplishments to date, and planned future activities. She highlighted the need for research in the four ARID areas (healthy ecosystems, sustainable water, community health and vitality, and adaptive infrastructures) to align with and respond to the needs of management agencies, communities, and businesses and industry in order to inform actions to increase resilience.
